about

This album was created as a form of my own musical therapy and reflection. The songs are a hypnotic soundtrack for my own mental images, and the album is meant to be listened to when you can just sit and deeply listen...which is something I'm trying to do more of. It embodies my feelings over the past few months as I student taught Special Education at an inclusion middle school throughout the pandemic mayhem. There are highs, lows, and moments of brooding intensity.

The title comes from the cover photo, which is a self-portrait of my silhouette as I walked underneath a streetlight on a rainy night. When I put the contrast on hyperdrive it came out looking like stars shining in the sky. The sky is often a focal point for my meditation and reflection at the end of a long day. I enjoy listening to these songs on headphones as I sit on my lanai and contemplate at dusk, relax on the sofa with a beverage, or drive in the car blasting these at high volume while cruising around Oahu on the weekend. But hey...that's just me. You do you.

While reflecting on this collection of songs, I came to realize that they not only embody my feelings over the past few months, but they reflect a lot of my early influences in electronic music. If you can imagine who some of those may be while you listen to this, I'd love to hear your guesses.

All the instruments were played by me. On this album, only three tracks have fretless bass, and on one, it doesn't even sound like bass...more like a slack-key guitar. So this is a deeper dive into synths than I usually do. Very little quantization or programming was used, and almost all of the parts were performed live in real-time, including the drum tracks...(which was quite a fun challenge).
